Today, individuals and organisations all over the world celebrate Earth Day, an annual campaign to commend and promote green energy and environmental sustainability. Each Earth Day is held in high regard by environmentalists – however this year in particular it is even more exciting – for it marks the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement.
With roots in 1970, Earth Day was borne following the effects of the devastating Santa Barbara oil spill which caused a massive impact to life and lot across California. In an attempt to provide a cause for people across the world to get behind, as well as raise awareness of the anthropogenic impact of fossil fuels, over 1 billion of us now participate each April 22nd.
The Paris agreement talks will include topics from the proposal to make our cities 100% renewable right through to the planting of 7.8 billion trees and the reduction of global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius, amongst others. But for all the discussion, there still has to be a human contribution, which is where our clients are getting involved:
Red Marine Ltd recently developed a nuclear decommissioning ROV, the STOBOT, providing a novel way of cleaning storage ponds, and Mantank – one of the North East’s largest environmental service companies – has invested more than a million pounds in a new business division that has already created 12 new jobs in Teesside.
With an expertise in promoting companies in the energy, water & waste, environment, urban regeneration and sustainability sectors, we feel a great pride that fitting measures are being taken to promote environmental sustainibility and clean energy.
